I never imagined that Bob Seger would have such a profound impact on my World Race.

As I sit in Kathmandu (track 3 on 1975’s Beautiful Loser), it’s amusing to reflect on the last month of my life and how everything worked out for a strange reason.

Last month, we had team changes, and our new team decided to go with Team Night Moves as our new name. Why? Well, because Bob Seger is an American hero, that’s why.

Anyway, we had to find some reason to give to our squad leaders that sounded halfway spiritual, for why we chose this team name. I think the final answer was that we were all night owls, and… God moves at night? Good enough for the World Race website I guess.

But this team name turned out to be strangely fortuitous.

While in India, our ministry days wouldn’t start until 5:00 PM, when we would drive out to a village, deliver some testimonies and share the word of God, pray for people around the village, and get pictures taken of us, as if we were Britney Spears climbing out of a limousine., then arrive home around 11:30 PM.

Oddly enough, God truly was moving during the nights while we were in India. He worked some special opportunities through us, and we had the chance to share Christ with hundreds of people over the course of our time in Marturu.

Here’s another strange twist in what we thought was such a clever team name; God showed His sense of humor on the people that chose their team name after a song, and He had us putting together musical selections for church services 6 nights a week. This could not have been more unfortunate for any group of 6 people, whose worship-leading experience is, shall we say… limited.

You know what else is fun? When the founder and director of the Christian organization you’re partnering with comes to visit, and he asks you what your team name is. You have to tell him it’s a song by Bob Seger… believe it or not, Seger hasn’t advanced to the remote reaches of Andhra Pradesh just yet.

Our team continues to grow and evolve, and you may see a new team name in the near future, but I’m thankful that God gave us this swift twist of fate that we could enjoy for the month. We were strong as we could be. We were Like a Rock.
