I finally got it!!
So after 3 or 4 years of wanting to get this particular tattoo I have finally gotten them!! Yes I did say them; it’s a pair actually. So on my right thigh above my knee I got the word Kenosis and about my left knee I got Gethsemane. But the question is what do they mean? Why get them?Well let me tell you.
We’ll start with Gethsemane. Gethsemane is the olive garden (bet you didn’t know they had olive garden in Jesus’s time) that Jesus was in when the temple guards took him; to start the end of his life. But what makes this story really inspiring and moving is what took place there and it’s significance.
Matthew 26
36At that time Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and He told them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
37He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.38Then He said to them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.”
39Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”
40Then Jesus returned to the disciples and found them sleeping. “Were you not able to keep watch with Me for one hour?” He asked Peter. 41“Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
42A second time He went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass unless I drink it, may Your will be done.”
Luke 22
And He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, where He knelt down and prayed, 42“Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.”43Then an angel from heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him. 44And in His anguish, He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground.
These portions of scripture help us understand Kenosis. By definition Kenosis is the act of emptying oneself of ones dreams, desires, wants, etc and allowing God to fill us up with his plans and desires. Here Jesus demonstrates the ultimate act of Kenosis; his obedience to Gods plan of of death even if it was not one the he wanted.
In these two portions of scripture we get painted a small picture of what Jesus was feeling. His soul was consumed with sorrow so much so that he almost died before the cross was present. His fear brought him to the floor and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground.
So now the question is why did I get them? These are my constant reminders to do exactly what Jesus did there in the garden of Gethsemane. That when I find myself in my own dark garden that I may too find the courage that Jesus had to do that what he did not want to do. That the idea of not just death but also torture would not cause fear in me to run away but to walk dignified to

Getsemaní es el huerto de olivos (apuesto a que no sabías que tenían un huerto de olivos en el tiempo de Jesús) en el que estaba Jesús cuando los guardias del templo lo llevaron; Para empezar el final de su vida. Pero lo que hace que esta historia sea realmente inspiradora y conmovedora es lo que ocurrió allí y su significado.
Mateo 26
36En ese momento, Jesús fue con sus discípulos a un lugar llamado Getsemaní, y les dijo: “Siéntense aquí mientras voy allá y rezo”.

40Entonces Jesús volvió a los discípulos y los encontró durmiendo. “¿No pudiste vigilar conmigo durante una hora?”, Le preguntó a Peter. 41 “Velad y orad para que no entréis en tentación. Porque el espíritu está dispuesto, pero el cuerpo es débil “.

Estas porciones de las Escrituras nos ayudan a entender la kenosis. Por definición, Kenosis es el acto de vaciarse uno mismo de los sueños, deseos, deseos, etc. y permitir que Dios nos llene con sus planes y deseos. Aquí Jesús demuestra el último acto de Kenosis; Su obediencia al plan de muerte de los dioses, incluso si no era uno que él quería.
En estas dos partes de las Escrituras, tenemos una pequeña imagen de lo que Jesús estaba sintiendo. Su alma se consumió con tanto dolor que casi murió antes de que estuviera presente la cruz. Su miedo lo llevó al suelo y su sudor se convirtió en gotas de sangre que caían al suelo.
Así que ahora la pregunta es ¿por qué los obtuve? Estos son mis recordatorios constantes de hacer exactamente lo que Jesús hizo allí en el jardín de Getsemaní. Que cuando me encuentre en mi propio jardín oscuro, también pueda encontrar el coraje que Jesús tuvo para hacer lo que no quería hacer. Que la idea no solo de la muerte sino también de la tortura no me causaría miedo, sino que caminaría dignamente a mí.
