Hi, my name is Oralia! I am 21 years old and just moved to Magnolia, TX.
I was born and raised in this small unique town. It lacks a Chick Fil A and Starbucks (at least on my side) but Magnolia overflows with love, support, and kindness. Don't worry, I make the 30 minute drive to fulfill my nugget and coffee cravings.
I’m a proud 2010 high school graduate that went off to New York City after graduation. I left behind my parents (no siblings, I’m an only child), my close friends, and dog.
I explored my new favorite city and wore business casual to school everyday (not by choice- dress code). I chose The King’s College to pursue their business management degree. I want(ed?) to work with non-profits to help build their foundation. Particularly, I'd love to work with an organization that strives toward the abolishment of human trafficking and sex exploitation. Social justice has always moved my heart.
After my 2012 fall semester, I decided to leave school indefinitely. I felt like I needed to take time to think and refocus. I was blessed with a great job, living situation, and community when I dropped out. New York City was my home and I thought I would never leave.
Long story short, in April 2013, I became restless but the kind of restless that pushed me beyond myself. I knew that a lot of change was about to happen. I just felt it in my heart.
I started asking God what I needed to do. I focused more on Him. For months I prayed the same prayer,
“Open the right doors, and let me grow closer to You.”
My heart started desiring things I never expected; such as leaving New York City to prepare for overseas mission work. At the time, I sponsored a child and honestly, that was as much international work as I thought I'd do. I never thought I would be called to leave my comfort and chose to live on less.
But here I am today, going on the World Race with you.
I say that we are going because there is no me without you. Together we can make a difference. I may be the one going overseas but I would not be going if it weren’t for you joining me in this ministry.
But who are you partnering with?
A few years ago, I listened to a speaker read off her "likes list". To finish off she said, “now you have a better understanding of who I am” and I really did. So here are a few of my likes:
I like to explore, discover, and learn new things.
I like to sit on a bench in Central Park and listen to the jazz players.
I like to layer on sweaters for fall.
I like going to museums by myself; especially the Museum of Modern Art.
I like long spontaneous road trips with music blasting.
I like conversation; the good kind where you are laughing the entire time or the kind that provokes a lot of thought.
I like music; particularly Simon & Garfunkel, Glen Hansard, Devandra Banhart, The National, Radiohead, Temper Trap Bon Iver and anything that plays on The Drums Pandora station.
I like watching Despicable Me and all the Harry Potter movies over and over again.
I like to walk aimlessly.
I like New York City.
I like to watch bad reality TV.
I like to write; if I ever lose my memory (I hope I don't), I have the past 9 years of my life recorded.
I like to pretend I'm a coffee drinker by ordering a latte every so often.
I like to create or watch people create.
I like putting on the perfect outfit with the right shoes.
I like documentaries and hope to one day film my own.
I like when people open up to me.
I like when people ask me for favors.
I like food; Indian and Italian are my favorites but nothing beats my mom's homemade dinners.
I like hymns.
I like riding in the car with my dad and singing along to The Beatles together.
Thank you for wanting to know who I am.
