I have slacking a bit on updates so I wanted to update on Chile while I’m still in the country.
We are working with a house church whose pastor was sent to another church but who are still sticking together and trying to reach their community. We are beyond blessed to be staying at a young couples brand new house alone, that they bought getting ready for their marriage in a few months.
We have been doing outreach in different ways such as “free hugs,” free coffee at the bus station before people go to work, and English classes. We are preaching at the church services and leading worship time.
So far our English classes are divided for adults/ seniors and then for kids. I’m very impressed at the older people who can barely even hear but who came and sat in the front row with a willing heart to learn, it warmed my heart.
It was also cool to see the first day we did free hugs how people can’t help but smile when we hug them. Arriving at the bus stop after a long day, walking with a hardened face in the freezing cold, their expressions changed after we attacked them with hugs, it really is the little things sometimes.
The hospitality here in Chile has been beyond amazing, we have not lacked a single thing and people are so honored with us just visiting them. We have even been tucked into bed at a random persons home after being offered their bed. I can only hope to learn from this type of hospitality and apply it to my own life one day.
Interesting Facts:
– They seem to only use instant coffee hence the title of this blog
– The have a snack time called “once” like the number 11 in Spanish
– They are in the Eastern Time Zone
– Their currency is the Chilean Peso $667= $1 USD
Pray for us as many of us battle colds and brave the freezing weather here in Chile.
