Things that impacted me in Nepal:
- A boy of 8 or 9 years old high from sniffing glue singing next to me on the street and realizing he got the money from us
- Married business men from India throwing money at the women from the dance bars
- How my Nepali friends who led us in ministry, would look into beggars eyes and try to talk to kids asking for money, they didn’t just do acts of generosity, they lived in generosity.
- Sharing tender moments with a friend from the dance bars and hearing her desperation as she tells me she’s been there for many years and doesn’t know what will become of her life with a dead husband and a 7 yr old daughter.
- Listening to one of our Nepali translator sisters talk about how discouraged her heart is
- Sharing laughs, candies, and smiles with the beautiful women we met, at a second beauty day
- Worshipping God on Sarangkot mountain (within view of the Himalayas) as the sun was rising in the new day
- Having the best breakfast at a long- time missionaries house and experiencing so much love and generosity with a three course meal including oatmeal with peaches, pancakes, eggs, and toast. To top it off we also milk tea and REAL coffee.
- Entering into an American family’s house in Nepal for prayer time and being met with scents of Christmas, Christmas carols, a lit Christmas tree, and decorations throughout. So refreshing for my soul!
- Witnessing how selfless and open the American couple was with their home and time, letting us know we could stay as long as we wanted, and watching them wholeheartedly pray with us despite their possible tiredness as the night went on
Throughout these moments I am reminded how much sorrow there is in this world but how much joy exists as well. I have a place to put my hope in and continue to hold on to His promises and ask Him what I can do to bring hope and light into the darkness. Instead of dwelling on the bad we can choose to tackle it and at least try to make an impact. We don’t have to be part of an audience, we can be participants.
