Hi! My name is Omayra. I’m a 23 year old, lifetime Palm Bay, Florida native and I’m ok with that. This has allowed me to have a lot of people that I have known all my life and grown up with and I definitely think that’s a blessing.
I currently serve in the worship ministry of Jornada Al Cielo, a Spanish-speaking church that my parents pastor. I play the guitar and sing. I also help out with preteens in our kids’ ministry and assist leading a youth life group.
I’m one of three of siblings; I have an older sister and younger brother. I’m your typical middle child; annoying my family is one of my favorite hobbies. I’m blessed to have a great group of people around me who I can call my family—doing life together and building each other up.
I recently graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Communication—don’t let that fool you though, I struggle communicating with humans on the daily, it’s sad really. I love to dream, both figuratively and literally. I often recount my crazy dreams to my unwilling audience (older sister) but I also have so many dreams of what life could be like—how God meant for our lives to be exciting and filled with purpose.
I’ve always had a passion for adventure. I thought about studying abroad in college, but held off because of my desire to travel for purpose, by helping people in need, rather than just to see the sights. When I was first led to this opportunity, I had been looking at different opportunities in my life which all left me a bit uninterested. I remember praying, asking God to show me something I would be passionate about. One day after praying, I stumbled upon the World Race website and was instantly in awe and excited but wondering if it would be possible.
I have held off for a long time, prayed for months, woken up at night terrified that I wouldn’t be strong enough to do the race. What I’ve been learning, though, is that sometimes the most terrifying things are the most rewarding so I’m definitely taking a leap of faith. I wish God had a detailed road map drawn out for me because I just want to follow His will (although with my abilities, I would probably still manage to get lost lol). But for now, I’m walking through open doors, asking Him to guide my steps, and trusting that with God all things are possible.
