During this last week I had a few chances to do ministry I’m very excited about, construction! I know it sounds odd, an 18 year old girl excited about construction work? But if you ask anyone, that’s me.
We had been helping a man, named Josè, build his house. He didn’t have much time before he needed to move, and my squad was able to jump in and help. First seeing the job sight was a shock to me. All that was there was logs sticking out of the ground waiting for a floor to be built on them. On day one I was pulled aside by our base host, told the plan for the day, and how to exacute it. It took some time to adjust to how construction is done here but by the end of the first day I was working like a local. Each day I was given more responsibility. By the end of the week Costa Rican construct met American construction and things were running better than ever.
Coming on the race I would have never expected to find myself building a house in the middle of the jungle, or that I would be one of the most experienced on the crew. When I was younger in spent a lot if time working with my dad. I didn’t always enjoy it. Actually, I never did. I spent a lot of time wishing I could be doing anything else. Little did I know that all that time spent working with my dad and learning about trade work was the Lord properly equipping for the future. I always told everyone I was goin upg to college because I never wanted to work a manual labor job. But here I am, 18 years old, in the jungle of Costa Rica, using all the skills my dad taught me, and I have never been happier!
