as promised here I am to update you about ministry for the next month & a half. WOOHOO!!!!
Monday- our Mondays look a lot different than normal but I am so excited for it. we have elders at this base which means there is a couple who lives nearby who basically plays the role of a mom & dad. they are incredibly wise & experienced in the missions field & have a lot to offer our squad. on Monday mornings, we clean the base which is then followed by a word from the elders shortly after. they want to walk us through things that may be challenging to do so alone. to create an open space for us to boldly live out what the Lord is teaching us. to put it to action, they plan a ministry activity for all of us. it is a super refreshing day because we are learning & living in a way that is glorifying to the Lord but is done in a different way every week.
Tuesday- La Cometa! this ministry we only do on Tuesdays so it too is such a cool environment to experience even if it isn’t often. La Cometa is a state government run human resources facility. there is an extremely wide range of things they have to offer, which is exciting for us because our team is able to split up & explore things we have a heart for. with that being said, it is to no surprise that I am with the kiddos. with me are two of my teammates, katie & morgan, & we spend the whole day with the kids. as for the rest of my team they spend part of their day teaching women english & then split up for the second half. amanda & presley are instructing a drawing workshop for kids 8 & up with a passion for art. emily & sophi are spending more time with women & ministering to them while also doing fun activities like making jewelry & painting their nails. the staff is really open to us doing anything with the people who come through so I am excited to see all that happens there in our remaining time.
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday- these three days, ministry looks the same. we go into a nearby slum area & work with the powerhouse of a women Bella Flor. she is an incredibly relational woman with a passion to help everyone around her. no joke she knows everyone in that community by name & there sure are a lot of them. her building is mainly a feeding center, however we are trying to implement a program for the kids that come through it. we don’t come in contact with adults and/ or parents often, primarily just kids who scramble in the place whenever they please. they watch a short video about a bible story each day but other than that, there isn’t a ton of structure. plus Bella Flor has her hands tied most of the time trying to cook & prepare the meal. she is very adamant about the fact that she wants the kids to learn something from us so we are in the process of teaching them more bible knowledge, some english here & there, & getting their energy out by playing games in the plaza/ playground area.
overall, our ministry for the time we have in costa rica is incredible & includes many great people. thank you for keeping up with what my day to day life looks like on the field 🙂
