This past week we have been working on the upkeep of the grounds which we call home.

You see we live in the ‘Beam House’ on a vibrant little piece of land accompanied by 2 other homes which house our lovely contacts Louie and Erica, and our dear friends and fellow American missionaries, Mike and Janinne.

We are surrounded by a variety of lush green trees, plants and shrubs which, to say the least, need some upkeep.

So over the last 7 days we have been cleaning up the place, weeding, moving rocks/slates/branches, planting new shrubs,

and just giving the place a face lift.

I’m loving it.

As I sit in the shade of the sycamore tree pulling weeds, I imagine the first garden, the Garden of Eden. The place the Lord made for His kids to rest in and to walk in. A place to thoroughly enjoy His presence. I often wonder at the pure bliss of walking with my Father in that garden hand in hand. How sweet it must have been for Eve and Adam. That is what God wanted, and still wants for us. He desires to walk so closely with us that we can hear the steps of His feet and the very pounding of His heart. I truly believe that any place Gods kids are can be as radically inhabited by His spirit as that place…..if we are simply aware of it. As the warm breeze blows in and covers me with another layer of red african dirt, I bask in it. With sweat dripping off my face, dirt under my nails, and a flurry of ants ay my feet, I am well aware that the scene isn’t anything special to any bystander. However to me…….to me it was glorious. Although I won’t walk in THAT garden, His presence is so thick in MY little secret garden that I can’t imagine anything better for that moment.
