Simplicity.  That’s how I would describe life in Kachibora, Kenya.  My team is living at the church complex.  We are blessed to be sleeping inside and on beds.  It rains almost every afternoon, so it is such a blessing not to be in our tents.  We wake up to the sounds of a crowing rooster and men speaking Swahili.  We eat the same things pretty much every day, but we are definitely well fed… some combination of the following; bread, peanut butter and jelly, rice, beans, cabbage, beef stew, chapati, green grams, cooked greens, assorted fruits.  We take bucket bath “showers” and use squatty potties.

Beautiful is another word I would use to describe Kachibora, Kenya.  Mountains and flourishing plants surround us.  The air is so clean and the night sky is radiant.  The people are so warm and generous.  We have really enjoyed getting to know the men that work at the church.  They are so caring and have such a servant’s heart.  Children’s laughter fills the air and life is so evident.  I think about how I’m actually here in Kenya and it’s beautiful.

Sometimes I wonder how I’m going to do this for 11 months.  It’s good to be here, yet it’s hard to be away from loved ones.  But I know I’m here because God has placed me here and for that I am thankful.  Kenya. Simple.  Beautiful.  Filled with life.  My heart is filled with love for these people and their culture.  Bwana Asifiwe!  (Praise the Lord)
