Budapest, Hungary
Three’s Company

The sounds, the smells, the sights,
such a BEAUTIFUL place.
History of the Holocaust, Roman and
Russian rule, Industrial Revolution,
Urban Growth, 1989 Freedom,
etc….Budapest, one of my favorite places in
the World,
is also more than all of it’s grandeur.  It has children,
wives, husbands, youth…..names….and faces!

Here are THREE.
Follow quickly this adventure:

David and I, good buddies on this race, decided to hang
out for a few hours, strolling around Budapest.
Little did we know
our hang out time would turn in to such an eventful, meaningful, and
fun time
.
We meet up with a friend from Romania
(far left), to hang out. We walk to a tourist square, look at St.
Stephen’s Bisilica, and run into Esther(2nd from left).
She’s young, speaks English well, and a Hare Krishna. She gives us
pamphlets, we listen, and we give her the time of day. We each then
begin to encourage her. Ask her some questions. I tell her the story of her namesake, Esther in the Bible. “For Such A Time As This” I hope in my spirit. We explain our faith
in Jesus, and share his grace and love with her. She’s receptive, but
sticks to her convictions about Hare Krishna. But we make an
exchange, one of us will go to her church, if she comes with us to
ours. This always doesn’t work. But she says yes!

David and I stroll with Emoke, down the
cobble stone streets of Budapest. Take pictures at the Chain Bridge,
and begin to encourage Emoke. She has some important questions and
thoughts about her relationship with God. It gets to the point where
David and I literally stand on the bench in the middle of a busy
tourist street, and shout declarations for Emoke. We shout and speak
over her
truths such as “God is Freedom” “God gives Grace, and
Love” “The devil’s lives will not prevail” “You are Free in
Jesus’ Name!” It was fun, and we all chuckled, but it was also
meaningful. Very meaningful. We cared for Emoke, to believe God’s
truths, shout and declare them, and not the lies of the devil that
can shout so loudly in our minds.

Great times!

David and I then head back home. We
stop off at a pub. We sit at a table already occupied with someone’s
bag. But it’s a real small place. So we enjoy our conversation. Then
in the door walks George. It was his bag. He only knows Hungarian.
But he knows a enough English for us three to have a conversation. It
turns out to be his birthday.
He’s celebrating alone in a pub,
smoking and drinking. So we engage him with smiles. We scoot down
close to him to take a picture. We tell him we’re missionaries. He
smiles real big. He is interested. We tell him we love Jesus...He really likes that, he smiles. We encourage him, and sing to him happy birthday. We encourage
him to know the Lord more.

One of my favorite days on the race.
Because it displays powerfully that ministry doesn’t have to only
take place in a building, with a structure, a program. Ministry can also
take place as we live our lives, even hanging out as two guys in
Budapest. We were able to literally speak God’s gospel to 3 amazing
people:

A 20 yr old Hare Krishna girl named
Esther.
A 28 yr old Ph.D student named Emoke.

A 45 yr old man in a pub named
George.

I like our Three’s company 🙂
