My Heart For Simon

14 World Racers pull up to a park, as school lets out,

and begin to talk to the tweeners.

There's many Gypsies,

and the language barrier is tough!

Students gather….listen to us sing songs

with a guitar and djembe to God.

They watch, interested, and listen as racers share God's love.

I see Simon behind the bars,

and invite him to come sit with me. He does.

I use a translator who knows Romanian but also Spanish.

I speak Spanish to the translator, who then translates it to Romanian.

Simon responds in Romanian to the translator,

who then translates it to me in Spanish,

where I translate the Spanish

in my head to English. Phew!

Simon desires to know Jesus. I pray with him.

He's now been introduced, and has said YES to knowing Jesus. PRAISE GOD!

Simon is dirty…….he is hungry………and he is lonely.

His father is dead………and his mom………..abandoned him.

All the school children around him get

on a city bus and go 'home.'

Simon says “La Calle” is my home.

He stays with a brother for a few days,

but also lives on these very streets.

I look into Simons eyes and see hardness, defenses…..but love, such care, gentleness, and JOY! He shows off his mad playground skills

We walk down the road to our bus stop. He follows me. we walk together. I won't let him go. I put my arm around him and make sure me and him become buddy's for these several hours, no one else but me and him.

At the store now, we go inside and I buy him a banana, juice, and oranges. He needs the vitamins. We eat together, we smile together. Simon even pushes away other kids that try and harm me. He knows no way to repay the kindness except to become my protector. One thing he has gotten good at.

Simon sits next to me, doesn't move,

or play around with other kids. We horse around,

take pics, and peel oranges together.

I'm inside the bus now,

from outside he waves goodbye in excitement.

I wave goodbye in tears, my heart broken.

He's an orphan, he's hungry, and he radiates joy in his smile.

Lord, be with Simon, bring him a home to live in,

people to love him, and a close belonging in you.

Simon, I hope to meet you again one day.

You're awesome!!!
