I rush.
I hurry to this, hurry to that, try and get this done, try and get that done.
I definitely don’t like it, but you know…things have to get done right!?!
My family jokes with me…”Noe, you’re going to be late to your own wedding!”
I laugh, we all laugh.
This comment comes from my high school prom. I had a nice date, a sweet girl to go with. Well, because my personality is laid back, laissez faire, and being a youngest child that fly’s with the wind, I wasn’t worried about the time so much…so…I waited, till the last minute, to get ready. Have you ever done that?
So there I am, laughing and smiling away at the hilariousness of it all, as I ran around the house finding the shoes, the tie, the flower in the fridge. I jump in my car, still tucking in my shirt as I drive across town, and arrive at her front door barely catching my breath, and of course, late. I thought I would just pick her up, and off we drive to the Prom. So I left my jacket in the car. Well, not the case. She of course, was excited and her family too. “Oh, the family…right!” I thought in my mind. So they invited me in, I tuck in my shirt better, and they all gather around for pictures. They snap a dozen pictures, have big smiles on their faces, and wave goodbye to us as we drive away from the house.
I felt like a complete jerk.
Here I was, late, unprepared, a little scattered, and totally not mindful of her or the family.
It was then that I learned a lesson. One that I will never forget. And hopefully one that I have learned from.
The lesson: how to be disciplined, responsible, and efficient … while being at peace, relaxed, and at rest.
How do I balance rest and readiness?
Without giving away too much, here’s one final story about this lesson:
