A message to the anxious, or undirected like myself.

We don’t have to do anything now, to ensure happiness in our future.

The grass is not greener on the other side, because your joy will not be fulfilled in a place. Not a profession, school, new season of life, or in a significant other.

Remember that your joy is not in doing anything, but simply in being an heir, son, or daughter of Christ. We are called, not driven men and women.

Our days, weeks, and months may be tribulation filled, but we have peace -through Jesus Christ, with God who delivers us from evil. (Romans 5:1, Matthew 6:13).

To continue-

This is an excerpt from C.S. Lewis’ book, “The Screwtape Letters”. It’s a fictional book written in a series of rhetorical letters. It’s from the perspective of demons, and spiritual powers in the heavenly realm. This specific letter, is from one demon to another, who is counseling, and teaching a younger “tempter”.

In regards again to the perspective of this letter, do not be dismayed. The patient is -us, or more specifically, a young man during the draft, and the “enemy”, is -God (according to the demons).

“I am delighted to hear that your patient’s age and profession make it possible, but by no means certain, that he will be called up for military service. We want him to be in the maximum uncertainty, so that his mind will be filled with contradictory pictures of the future, every one of which arouses hope or fear. There is nothing like suspense and anxiety for barricading a human’s mind against the Enemy. He wants men to be concerned with what they do; our business is to keep them thinking about what will happen to them. Your patient will, of course, have picked up the notion that he must submit with patience to the Enemy’s will. What the Enemy means by this is primarily that he should accept with patience the tribulation which has actually been dealt out to him–the present anxiety and suspense. It is about this that he is to say “Thy will be done”, and for the daily task of bearing this that the daily bread will be provided. It is your business to see that the patient never thinks of the present fear as his appointed cross but only of the things he is afraid of.”

The Screwtape Letters

I think there is a major line of truth, that can easily be skipped over in this passage. That is: that the enemy takes away our hope of truth.

Read this line again.

It is about this that he is to say “Thy will be done”, and for the daily task of bearing this that the daily bread will be provided. It is your business to see that the patient never thinks of the present fear as his appointed cross but only of the things he is afraid of.”

The enemy doesn’t want you to know that there is daily bread for your present struggle.

Numerous things in the world (ex: ignorant friends, media, world philosophy) will lead you to believe that the present situation you are in, will be a perpetual struggle that you must run from.

The world tells you that you will find a source of eternal fulfillment in what you do. It tells you to “find your purpose”. When you’re hurt or struggling, the enemy would have you believe that joy and healing is a distant virtue in need of pursuit. It’s always tomorrow.

The world tells you that

“Maybe when you’re older, you’ll be happy”

“Maybe when you get married, you’ll be happy”

“Maybe when you get this new car, you’ll be happy”

“Maybe when you get this outfit, you’ll be happy”

It’s in these things, that we put our hope, and it does not please God (Romans 8:24-25 ESV).

This entire pursuit is a cyclical process, and when you finally get tired and reach a revelation, you’re either dead, or in a pool of tears and mercy with a chance to encounter God because all the things that you worship have failed you (Deuteronomy 32:37-38). Hopefully it’s the second.

Don’t search for something in this world- to quench the strain of your unappeasable spirit. Don’t DO anything. Instead know and believe, that God will give your spirit a drink of water that leaves you never thirsting. Know that there is truth for your struggle in the word, and in the wisdom of God -that is made known through the church. (Ephesians 3:10) (John 4:13-14).

I’m here to echo what my God says; that there is truth for your current struggle. His experience has covered your trials, and there is a peaceful source of strength for you. Just search for it. Go to the church, go to your pastor, send a message to the ones you know are intimate with the Lord and biblically solid. Those who seek will find. This is what God says about this:

“I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.”

Proverbs 8:17 ESV

Diligently seek him. He has spoken about the very thing you’re in. Don’t run, don’t go somewhere else. Who are you? you’re a Child of God. What does a father do for his children (you). He takes care of them (Luke 11:11).

He’s got a piece of truth for you, that will give you strength for your situation now, and every situation to come. If you need truth, and have nowhere to go, then please message me, or contact me.
