So I have been here in Costa Rica for a little more than a week and it has been a blast. We have spent the last week here at Oceans Edge which is just a Christian organization that does ministry in the community. They have built this amazing house/sleeping area for all the missionaries that ever come here to Jaco. They have had people from the World Race stay here before and they have told us that they just finished the upstairs where all the girls are sleeping and it’s brand new. So it is really cool to be here with these people and the things we are getting to do. It is ran by a few women who all have different backgrounds of how they got here but are all cool. The main three lady’s we see on a daily basis are Hannah, Rita, and April. They have been great leaders and mentors for us to talk to and to ask questions about things. But this past week has been a cool experience with everything we have done especially the ministries we are working with here.
So the main ministry we are doing here is painting light posts on the streets. They want to bring life to the streets of Jaco where there is lots of prostitution and drugs and things like that. So we paint things of life on the light posts like animals or plants to bring life to the community. Painting has sparked many conversations with lots of people walking the streets and we have gotten to pray over lots of people and some people even want to help because they are so pleased of what we are doing. Other things we are doing are helping at the church or homeless ministry. We help at the church with the prenatal center or help cleaning or organizing things, really just anything they need help with from us. And the homeless ministry is at night in the park and we get to go hang out with all the homeless people around town and give them food and get to speak with them. The ministry here is really amazing and I’m so glad to be doing what we are doing here.
So while we are here we got put into mentor groups of the people here at Oceans Edge and the boys got put in a mentor group with men at the church. So us four guys on every Thursday night go to this guy named Richard’s house and get to spend time with him in the word and worship. He also has two other men from his church group that come and be with us. But we got to go to his house this past Thursday and spend time with them and it was really cool. We got to worship and pray over each and get into the word for a few hours and it was awesome. So we will meet for the next two Thursday’s while we are here in Jaco and I can’t wait to see what we will do for the next meetings.
So on every Sunday at church every person on my team has to sign up for at least on time of teaching kids at Sunday school during church service. There are three age groups which are 0-3, 4-7, and 8-12. I signed up for the first week and was with the 8-12 kids. Each class we have two of us teaching so my partner was Mack. So on Saturday we planned out everything we were going to teach them and we had all the kids act out a story and just had fun getting to teach them. So it has been an exciting week for all of us in our new home for the month and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the month has in store for us.
