We don’t hear much about the Spirit Realm in the Western World, do we? Ooh, it feels kind of creepy to even write about it. Surely it’s all fiction, right? …right?
The people of Africa would attest to the fact that spirits are a very real thing. Long before Christianity was brought to this continent, the people here engaged in voodoo practices, ancestral worship, and worship of just about everything under the sun. Actually, I’m sure they worshipped the sun, too. The sangoma, or witch doctors, continue many of these practices today, enticing people to join them by offering healings, blessings,
and curses.
What these people don’t know is that the spirits they worship are demonic in nature. That’s right folks, there are indeed evil spirits working in the world even today. Jesus cast out many in His time, and they didn’t call it quits when He died and rose again. They are still up to no good, doing anything they can to be a stumbling block to the Good News that Jesus Christ and His followers shared.
So, the people of Africa have grown up with an understanding of the spirit world. They know it exists, and they have seen the things that these evil spirits have been able to do here. When Christianity came to the dark continent, these people, who always seem to be hoping for something good, have started to embrace the Gospel and who Jesus Christ is. They understand the spirituality of God and they cling to the Scriptures that talk about the many miracles God can do.
Because of this, Africa is a place where many miracles happen. In many places in America, we wonder if such things can happen in our day. I tell you, they do happen here! Our team has seen people being healed and I have heard many stories of the blind seeing, the lame walking, and even the dead being raised. The spiritual air is just different here, and it’s amazing to see how much faith these people have.
I am working on a blog regarding spiritual influences in my life, hopefully I can get it up some time soon. Call this an introduction to that. 🙂
