The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name. Exodus 15:3
Some of you right off hand may know that the title of my blog is the title of a chapter in the book Wild at Heart by John Eldredge. Its a book that I have wanted to read for awhile now. I finally have it. The first few chapters really began to speak to me as I agreed with many things he says right off the bat. "Adventure with all its requisite danger and wilderness is a deeply spiritual longing written into the soul of man" (pg. 5)
"Its not just about having fun. Adventure requires somthing of us, puts us to the test. Though we may fear the test, at the same time we yearn to be tested, to discover that we have what it takes."(pg.13)
I think our society has made manhood out to be somthing totally different from what God has intended. I mean why is that we love watching movies like The Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, Braveheart or 300?. I believe God has put a warrior spirit in all men, the spirit to fight for something bigger than ourselves. Not only has our society made manhood seem wimpy but Christian men as well and I would go as far as to say Jesus himself. I believe many men portray Jesus as this little wimpy guy who guy who just went around being nice and never picking fights . But I think its a very bad image of Jesus. I mean if He is truly God, which He is , then He MUST be the perfect image of God as a man, and what a man should look like.
I could go on and on and say so much more. I just recommend to the men who are following along on this blog with me if you have not read Wild at Heart then get it.
I want to end this blog with what he says : "Jesus is no pale faced altar boy with his hair parted in the middle, speaking softly, avoiding confrontation, who at last gets himself killed beacuse he has no way out. He works with wood, commands the loyalty of dockworkers. He is the Lord of hosts, the captain of angel armies. And when Christ returns, he is at the head of a dreadful company, mounted on a white horse, with a double edged sword, his robe dipped in blood (Rev. 19). Now that sounds a lot more like William Wallace than it does Mother Teresa.
No question about it- there is somthing fierce in the heart of God."
Every man I believe has the desire for a battle to fight, an adventure to live and a beauty to rescue. These are all attributes of the wild one whose image we bear.
