tonight i watched  narnia for the first time. i’ve never read the books either, so i literally knew nothing about it other than it was a C.S. Lewis book that was sort of an allegory of the Gospel.

well- it ripped my heart apart in the best of ways.

tomorrow is squad lead church, & anna & i get the opportunity to talk about the meaning of communion. i’m specifically talking about the blood.

narnia gave me the most beautiful picture of why communion is so sacred & why the blood Jesus is the most powerful substance in the universe.

in narnia, ed betrays his family by siding with the white witch at first. & although he later regrets it, he still committed an act of betrayal. when his siblings bring that to aslan, he was honest with them about how big of a deal ed’s betrayal was. & none the less, he fights for him. he gave himself over to the witch as a living sacrifice in exchange for ed’s slate to be wiped clean. he was shaved, dishonored, and slain in the most cruel of ways.

harsh, huh?

it painted a pretty clear picture of what Jesus did, if you ask me. in Matthew 27, it talks about what exactly Jesus endured on the cross, for US. sour wine, a crown of thorns, stripped of his clothing, mocking, & being crucified in the middle of two robbers. He knew His purpose from the very beginning- that He was the final atonement (payment) for our betrayal to the Father.

that’s heavy, serious, & real stuff. if you get weepy at narnia, like i did, i hope you also get weepy when you think of Matthew 27.

communion is more than something you just do because everyone in your pew at church is doing it. communion is more than religion & ritual. communion is a sacred holy time that we get to be reminded of aslan giving his body over to the white witch for Ed. it’s a time to remember that Jesus gave His body over for each & every one of you.

that’s perfect love right there.

i pray that God spoke to each of you individually through this, & that today…right now…you stop to remember the moment that perfect love chose you. you’re fully reconciled & fully free forever. He gave you His life, now will you give Him yours?

with love, nikki
