What would you do if you feel in love and got married, but then lost your spouse in a car accident TWENTY DAYS later? I for one don’t even know… I can’t even begin to imagine. But yet it’s because of a tragedy like this that I’m serving where I am here in the Philippines this month.

On June 23, 2007, Amos and Yunjin Lyso were married and then on July 13th that same year they were involved in a car accident in Colorado that took the life of Yunjin. Out of a dream that Amos and Yunjin had to have several children, Amos partnered with KIM to create the YunJin Ministry Center. Located half a block away from KIM’s children home here in Manila and next door to the kids’ school, the YMC houses several ministry teams, a kitchen for their ministry program, and the Josie’s Girls program (a community outreach to young neighborhood girls).

It has definitely been very humbling to hear this story, to meet Amos and witness his passion for this ministry, and to serve as a part of her legacy through KIM’s independent living program. For the past three weeks Mac, Haile, Angela Bringham, and I have lived with 8 awesome teenagers!

This month has definitely been interesting as I’ve stepped into the role as a houseparent again. Through random movie nights, karate, game nights, karaoke sessions, and dance parties, these 8 teens (well technically 9, since the girl’s best friend Venus has been with us the majority of the time) have completely won my heart! God has such a huge plan for these young teenagers… it’s been a absolute honor to get to be a part of their lives and to be able to keep up with them in the future to see His plans for their lives play out!

Getting to work with these amazing teens has only been one of the ministries available here at KIM.  If you have the chance, definitely check out the blogs of my team/ squad mate’s about their work here in Manila with:
