Hey, what up! My name is Heather Nicole, aka Nikki, and this is my story…

I’m a West Texas girl that currently lives in the Austin area. I was first introduced to Christ when I was 13, after a classroom debate over evolution and the ignorance of an invitation. A year later I felt called to ‘vocational’ ministry, though I assumed it was with music. After dealing with depression, eating disorders, family issues, and the death of my best friend, I knew that I wanted to do something with youth. After moving to Round Rock my junior year of high school I became friends with several kids living at the local children’s home and by the end of my senior year they had convinced me that I needed to be a houseparent someday!

After graduating college at Hardin-Simmons I spent the next 5 years as a house parent/ foster mom (and grandma) to some amazing kids! During that last year I ended up at SFA for grad school and spent my internship developing foster homes and training foster parents. Over Christmas break of 2008 I had the opportunity to go on a mission trip involving working with orphans in Moldova… it was there that God rocked my world and used Hebrews 11:8-10 to call me to full time missions involving orphans and human trafficking! A month later, after a position at an orphanage in Nigeria fell through, the World Race fell into my lap!

Here are a few other things about me:

Oh how I love teenagers… especially when living with them almost got me arrested twice and had me plan a wedding in two days (which, btw, if that happens again I’ll be getting a free trip to Vegas courtesy of CPS)!

I love music and drama (as in acting, not the stuff my teenagers created!)

My car is my second home! I’ve been known to take daytrips to OK just for a concert or MS for dinner & coffee… so don’t be surprised if I show up in your town, especially if you’re in Seattle or a state I’ve never been to!

I absolutely love football! And I do believe in sports miracles… thankfully we now have DVR’s just in case I finally get one if the Cowboys win the Superbowl or the Aggies win a National Championship while we’re gone!

I don’t like structure and hate the pressure of deadlines… I do however love spontaneous randomness! I also love looking at the big picture and trying to find God in anything… give me an object or situation and I’ll give you an illustration!

And here are a few of my favorite things… coffee houses, Rosas, flip-flops, cooking, the beach, fireworks, Christmas lights, skylines, sunsets, buffalo wings, sleeping in, weight lifting, skydiving, roller coasters, camping, bonfires, puzzles, game nights, karaoke, reunions, Chinese food, and Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
