During our first week here at New Life, my team and I walked around several barrios visiting and praying with various families. At one point we came across a group of younger guys (probably late teens/ younger twenties) that struck an interest in some of my tattoos and ever since that initial conversation, they were constantly on my heart. I wanted to reach out to them, but how?!

At the beginning of our second week, we were walking around the barrios when we came upon this open soccer field. I immediately felt that we were supposed to pray over it. As we were praying, I kept getting visions of different groups of youth, who would probably never set foot in a church, encountering God here on the soccer field and how that experience would lead them to changing their lives… and their communities.

Later that week we discovered how a Real Life Team through AIM had been at New Life this summer and had wanted to build a soccer field on the campus, but were unable to because it was during the raining season here. I automatically thought back to that first group of young men and the vision I got at the first soccer field… Along with my team, I was totally up for the challenge. And so, we spent the next week and a half getting this field ready:

First, after several men macheted the grass, we raked the remnants up with sticks and burnt it.

Next we we had to replant 10 different trees and then manually till up the land.

Once it was tilled, we used a cement roller to flatten the ground.

Then the goals were made and the boundaries were chalked out.

This afternoon those young men we met just a few short weeks ago came and played the first game of soccer out here at New Life. I’m not sure what is in these young men’s future, but I’m confident that God is going to continue using New Life to draw the children and the youth in this area to encounter Him and experience His love.
