On the way to Cambodia I rode a bus. Actually I rode many buses. Each bus has it’s on story of the sites I saw, the made rap songs, food that was thrown, babies that cried, or holes so big in the floor I could fit in it. Along with buses we rode tuk-tuks and a two small vans. You might be thinking, ‘where in the world are you, Nikki?”; no worries I thought the exact same thing!
From my view I could see many hay farms filled with hard working men and women. I could see shacks that were somehow made into homes. Lots of kids riding their bikes to and from school. There are dirt roads after dirt roads. There was always a Buddhist temple or statue for worship not too far out of sight. Cambodia is mostly Buddhist, I think it’s about 90%. Yea, dang.
This month I get to work with and get to know five new women. My new team name is spare ribs! I also get to work along side them as we minister to a group of men. I think it’s crazy! The men at Teen challenge have accepted us with open arms though and treat us like sisters. We are staying at the church down the road from them so we get our alone time and such. These men come to teen challenge to escape their drug and alcohol addictions. Teen challenge teaches them about the Lord and his ways all the while helping them over come their addictions. Some of them are teenagers but many are in early to late twenties. Our ministry so far looks like teaching a lot of English [they are so eager to learn it!], teaching some bible studies, some farming along side the men [they have an echo-farm they recently started], and dancing…they LOVE to dance and I have a feeling it will bring some freedom to a few of my teammates.
Cambodia proves to be quiet and simple yet full of darkness and selfishness. I wish I could tell you the city I am in but I can’t say nor can I spell it!! I know we are about an hour away from Pheom Phen which is the closest city. I hope this gives you a bit of insight into what goes on in Cambodia. Pray for unity in my new team as we start a new way of life and as we minister to men. I trust God is moving and has here to be poured out and poured in.
***Internet is hard to get to, the nearest place is about half an hour away. So I may not be able to update as much as last month.*** We will do our best though!!
1 Thessalonians 4:8
“So deeply do we care for you that we are determined to share with you NOT ONLY THE GOSPEL but also OUR OWN SELVES, because you have become very dear to us.”
