Happy Thanksgiving!!!
About a week ago we realized that we may not have as much money left over for a nice Thanksgiving meal here in Thailand. My team and I got very discouraged about this. We thought of numerous things we could do. We thought about playing guitar on the beach for money or sitting on the side of Walking Street singing worship songs for money. Nothing really set well with us; so we prayed.
One night we were going to minister in the bars like we usually do. We hadn’t given up on God but we figured He would provide in other ways. A couple of my teammates took a truck taxi to the bars where they met up with all of us. I stood on the corner and watched their glowing faces walk toward me. Their faces were so light up! We all were eager to hear of their travels on this taxi; thinking in my head it was a typical conversation with a stranger. My teammates told me they met this guy who was from Germany, sitting with him was a guy from Korea. The conversation was pretty surface until they asked my teammates what they were doing here in Thailand. My teammates told them we were teaching English to Thai women who work in the bars and/ or are prostitutes. As the guy talked my teammates found out that he is married. He comes to Thailand every so often to meet up with his friend. He also is cheating on his wife with a man. He told my teammates he is Catholic but doesn’t practice. At one point in the conversation the guy offered to buy us dinner or for us to go have a drink with him and his friends. My teammates told him they had to meet us at the bars to talk about English classes. The guy was persistent and wanted to give them money. At first my teammates were reluctant but the guy insisted. My teammates agreed and the guy gave them some money. One would expect a few bucks but as they guy flipped through his money, it was thousands. In the end the guy gave my teammates 3,000 bot which equals about 100 US dollars. The guy wanted to make sure we used it for good. He asked what we would use it for, my teammates didn’t hesitate that he could trust us to use for Thanksgiving dinner.
