Reverence is such a beautiful word. The definition of reverence is honor or respect shown or felt/profound adoring awed respect.
Reverence is just one of those church words that you hear all the time but since being in India it has a whole new meaning for me.
When we first arrived here in India we had a few days of training all about what we should wear and how to honor the people of India the very best.
One thing that was asked for the women on my team was to buy a scarf because when we pray here in India we are to cover our heads in reverence of the Lord.
So I got a scarf and didn’t really think much about it. But then came our first event with our ministry host for the month. AWe went to a memorial service for a Christian women who had passed away last week. We put our scarves over our heads as we walked in and sat down. I looked around in awe at the fact that almost every single women there had a scarf or a part of her saree wrapped around her head.
The word reverence just kept echoing in my head.
Seeing all those women respecting and honoring the Lord God Almighty by covering themselves and focusing on Him and only Him for a whole service was just so beautiful.
My teammates and I discussed it and even said that we thought we might start doing our quiet time with our heads covered in reverence of the Lord!
I mean why not!? He deserves it and it is a little reminder that I am here serving Him…not just doing quiet time to get something out of it for myself.
Quiet time should be about spending time with the Lord, even if I don’t want to and even when it’s hard and even when I don’t want to listen and even when I don’t hear anything at all.
Quiet time should be about honoring, respecting, and showing reverence and awe for my Creator.
So if you need me I will be over here in India, with a scarf over my head, showing reverence for my loving Father.
Blessings,
Niki
