Remember that blog I wrote about how I was working on loving myself?

Well here is a little update and a story to go along with it.

So I mentioned how my teammates encouraged me to say things about myself that were truth. So I will randomly think about it and then say out loud, “God made me beautiful.” It helps sometimes but other times I just feel silly.

I’m working on it.

Anyways…here is a story about how God made me feel beautiful today.

Here in Côte d’lvoire the women typically wear a dress or a wrap skirt made out of these beautiful, colorful fabrics. They all look different and have different patterns and designs.

My teammates and I had decided when we first arrived that we wanted to make dresses or skirts or shirts before we left.

So last week, I bought some fabric and went to a seamstress who measured me from head to toe. I made a down payment and off we went.

Yesterday, when we were in town we went by the seamstress to pick up my dress! It was perfect! I also got a wrap skirt and a head dress to match!

My favorite thing about it is the fabric.

It has traditional maroon and yellow ginkgo tree leave pattern with stripes as the background. (I will post a picture as soon as we have access to wifi…our supply is very limited this month.)

I wore the wrap skirt today and really felt beautiful. Me…I felt beautiful!

And then I walked out to several women pointing out my skirt and calling it “jolie” which means pretty in French. They also called me “African women” ,which is their favorite thing to call us when we do something African like dance or let them braid our hair.

I felt like a beautiful African women ready to take on the world!

So maybe all I needed today was a new skirt and a couple of compliments for God to show me my beauty.

God has already showed me so much about loving myself just since writing that blog! My prayer everyday is that women and men all over the world will look at themselves with love…knowing that the Creator of all the universe loves them and made them in His perfect image.

You and I don’t need a new skirt or someone to compliment us to make us feel beautiful…because we already are!

You are beautiful and beloved!

Blessings,

Niki
