When the Lord tells you to do something…just do it.
The Lord has told me to do stuff many times and sometimes I just don’t listen. Sometimes I hear Him and choose not to do it. Sometimes I hear Him and don’t do it but then He tells me to do it again and again…and every single time I say no.
Example from this month would be talking to a person. There was this guy that I passed walking down the street of Pokhara, Nepal. I passed him at least 10 times. Every time I smiled and said hello but I never actually had a full blown conversation with him. I had that feeling deep inside that I was supposed to make small talk with him and just share what the Lord was doing in my life right now. I had this feeling about 10 times. Every time we crossed paths.
I never did.
I don’t know what stopped me. I make small talk so easily with EVERYBODY! That is one of my gifts! I’m not afraid to talk to strangers and I’m not afraid to tell people about what the Lord is doing in my life! So why? Why did not stop and talk to this man?
The Lord really pulled on my heart one time I passed by. He gently said, “Why are not being obedient in this small act? It’s not hard for you. What if that man dies today and you were going to be the one to bring him to salvation? Stop being disobedient and just listen to what I am telling you to do.”
Talk about conviction! So I promised the Lord the next time I saw him that I would stop and talk with him…even if I was in the middle of a conversation.
I never saw him again.
I looked out for him! I looked everywhere. He was gone and the Lords words just kept echoing in my head…just listen to what I am telling you to do!
Just do it!
The next thing the Lord told me to do was prayer bracelets.
We did a ‘beauty for ashes’ event with some of the women we had been ministering to this month. These women are in some tough situations and most of them are not Christians so our team was so excited to spend some time with them and just share Jesus’ love with them!
As the event was approaching our team was praying about what the Lord wanted the event to look like. The Lord told me to make prayer bracelets for the girls.
My idea behind this was that each of the girls would receive the bracelet and we would pray over the girls as we gave them the bracelets. Each bracelet had 10 beads, each bead was a different color to represent each of my teammates. All the girls on my team prayed over a specific color bead and prayed a specific prayer over that bead. For example, my bead was yellow and I prayed that the girls would have joy. I prayed that they would be reminded every single day that their joy comes from the Lord and He will strengthen them through any situation.
I mentioned it to the team and they seemed to think it was a great idea as well.
All I had to do was find 10 different color beads and string to put the beads on. Easier said than done.
I prayed a quick prayer before leaving to find supplies that I would find everything quickly and for cheap.
I found everything for less than $10 and within an hour!
When the Lord tells you to do something…He will help see it through.
The day of the event came and the bracelets were a hit!
We prayed over each girl there and covered them with love.
I pray now that every single time they look at their wrists they are reminded of that day and what we prayed over them.
I don’t know what will come of the bracelets…maybe someone will get saved because of it. Maybe it will change someone’s life. Or maybe it was just the Lord asking me to be obedient. Whatever it is I do not regret listening to the Lord’s command and next time I am just going to do it! I’m going to listen to Him and have no fear in it!
Is there anything the Lord has been telling you to do that you keep putting off or saying no to? You are not alone at all! But think about it…the Lord wouldn’t place something on your heart for no reason! Just do it!
Blessings,
Niki
