The real reason you’re probably reading this, is you want to know what my ministry assignment is for our first month in Cote d’Ivoire. But you’re going to have to wait. First I want to share with you a few Christmas thoughts I have had. (I do understand if you skip down to the bottom, where the assignment is located)

For those that don’t know, I work retail. And let me tell you, it has been an interesting time during the holiday season. Don’t worry, I survived (so far…). I’ve had a few thoughts through my experiences…

–While listening to the same Christmas music all day, on repeat, I’ve come to notice that during the holidays, “Jesus” music is acceptable. Why is it that during the whole year, Christian music is not allowed to be played? And it’s not just in stores, it’s everywhere. Stores, schools, secular radio stations etc. Why doesn’t any one complain? If Jesus was mentioned anytime during the year in these places that would be a big no no. Don’t get me wrong, I love that Jesus is preached during this time, but why can’t it be all the time?

–Why does Christmas stop being played as soon as December 26th hits? But it’s acceptable to start listening to it the day after Thanksgiving. The same thing with Christmas decorations. People put them up sometimes even before Thanksgiving, but take them down as soon as possible after Christmas.

–Christmas is a time of celebration of Jesus’ birth. A time to spend time with family and friends. A time to be joyous and happy. Then why are so many people crabby while they are shopping (and that includes the retail workers). Everybody should be so happy during the Christmas season. Why can’t we all have the love of Jesus when we are dealing with long lines at the register, or stores being out of stock?

The part you’ve all been waiting for, and I’m super excited to share with you what my team and I will be doing month 1 of our Race! My team Uprooted will be doing Trucker ministry in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. What does this mean? We will be engaging with the Truckers in the Port and sharing stories from the Bible with them and the ladies that work there. And we will be encouraging and training local ministry leaders who go out weekly to minister to these truckers.

My team and I are very excited for this opportunity. Speaking of my team, here they are!

My Team Uprooted consists of Brianna, Jessica, DJ, Breier, and Jon. If you want to know more about them, be sure to click on their pictures on the left side of this post, or click on the “meet my team” link!

The name Uprooted comes from the idea, that we were all uprooted from our lives, to go out and proclaim the gospel to others, where we will help uproot them and replant them in the deep rich soil and Love of God.
