The World Race. Every time I see, hear, and say those three words, my face lights up with joy. Sometimes I have even been brought to tears by these three words. So, as many of you know, college will be put on hold for me next fall and instead I am travelling for 9 months to Guatemala, Thailand, Malaysia, and Swaziland to share the gospel!! On September 21, I applied to six colleges and the next day, I applied to the World Race. Leading up to this time, I hadn’t put too much thought into doing this gap year program because I never thought I could handle it. Not sleeping in a comfy bed each night, not having my favorite food of quesadillas all the time, not being able to contact my friends or mom each day, and having long days of work didn’t seem appealing to me. Then I started watching the World Race videos, reading blogs, and looking at instagrams of people on the trip and these made me realize that this is exactly what I need and exactly what I want to do next year. It’s going to be sad not being able to start college with many of my friends or not being able to come home on the holidays to see them and my family but I know I will be helping change people’s lives by letting them know about our great God! I can’t wait to see the smiles on people’s faces when I help them by doing manual labor, organizing a Vacation Bible School or just playing with little kids.
This February, I am going back to Haiti this time with my dad to assist him with surgeries on a medical mission trip. This week in Haiti will give me a sneak peak of what my life will be like next year and I am looking forward to it. After I applied to the World Race, I had to be interviewed and to wait for about a month to find out if I was accepted. That month seemed to take forever. Knowing what I am doing next year has given me so much comfort. I believe this is God’s plan for me and that I’m following the path He has set before me. I’m so excited to see what God has in store and would ask you to please pray for me as I prepare for this trip and that I will be able to raise the money needed to go.
