I think when it comes right down to it most people would agree that there are some major problems in the world today. Pictures on the news show areas affected by earth quakes, mudslides, hurricanes and tsunamis. Commercials depict images of children starving, people dying of aids and preventable illnesses, and refugees fleeing from war torn nations. The statistics are so overwhelming that we become paralysed by them. We want to help but what can we do to make a difference? How can we change anything?

Coming from a small town I can relate to that anxiety. It’s tempting to believe that the impact we would make is so small it wouldn’t even matter and it’s not worth the effort. But the truth is you don’t eat an elephant overnight. We can make a significant impact on the world around us if we open our eyes and see people not numbers. I want to see the individual faces; that is why I signed up for the world race. My goal for 2011 as I travel from nation to nation is to seek out those individuals and allow their stories to shape my global perspective.

Of course a trip like this has a price tag. The cost for the trip is approximately $15000 Canadian. I am aiming to have $12000 raised by January. It’s a lot of money, my own personal elephant, but I know that I have been called to do this and I am confident that God will provide. Ultimately I hope that God’s provision will come through you. So I’m asking you, will you help me eat my elephant?

By the time you read this January will be about 5 months away. After praying about it and crunching the numbers it has come to my attention that I could easily raise the $12000 by January if 100 people were willing to give $120 each; that’s $24 a month for 5 months. In fact I could have the whole $15000 raised by my birthday, February 9th, if each person was willing to give an additional $30 for the month of January. I’m not asking for one person to do it all. I’m just asking for everyone to be faithful and commit to giving whatever they can. I am praying specifically for 100 people to commit to giving $150.

My Financial Goals:

August:                $2,400           Basically I’m hoping to add $2, 400

September:        $4, 800           to my account every month for the next

October:              $7,200           6 months and $600 during the first week of

November:         $9,600            February.

December:         $12, 000

January:               $14,400

February 9th:      $15,000

I currently have approximately $1050 pledged for the month of August plus $1000 I have been gradually setting aside as ‘missions money’ since February. That brings the total that will soon be registered in my account to $2050 Canadian. I need $350 more to meet my goals for August.

I have the next two days off and it is my intention to finish labelling all of the envelopes and send them out which means everyone will be recieving support letters within the next several weeks. I would love it if everyone would stand with me in prayer and believe for 100 people willing to donate $150, either as a one time donation or as $24 each month for the next 6 months.
