Since being in Guatemala I’ve been able to experience some truly beautiful things. I had the amazing opportunity to hike with my team to the top of a mountain this morning. Hiking a mountain may sound riveting but don’t be fooled… We drove in a van most of the way to the top and then hiked maybe a mile in total to the peak. Once at the top we sat in the darkness while our Guatemalan tour guides made us watery coffee. We had a hearty breakfast that included one very stale piece of bread and nothing else. We enjoyed our breakfast in the dark and soon I saw the first beautiful sight of the day… Since it was pitch black, you could see all of the lights from the cities that surrounded the lake.

(yeah I forgot to mention that at the base of the mountain is Guatemala’s largest lake.) Also in the distance you can see an active volcano erupting. Even in darkness beauty shines… As it became lighter out, the mountains and volcanos that surrounded the lake were able to be seen and Gods glory and beauty reigned. A feeling of complete peace and serenity washed over me as I had officially seen one of the most beautiful views of my life.

The only thing that I’ve found to be more beautiful is love. I’ve found love to be the most attractive and breathtaking thing on earth. There are many different beauties in love, like the love of a mother for her child, a brother to his brother, a child to his pet, among others. True beauty is loving everyone as you love yourself, is loving someone you just met, is loving those who wrong you, is loving well. Love is inertly beautiful as well as patient and kind. In the end, there are many beautiful things on this earth but what good is beauty without love.
