Every Thursday we have activation, which is where some of the team members from the base come and we worship and then they teach on something. after, my team, the guys split up and go with all of the other teams into their ministry sites and either do house visits or ask the lord what he wants us to do in that time. over the past 2 months my teammate Blake Sellers and i have been blessed with the opportunity to travel to the town of Calderas and create relationships with the people and just love on people in general. there is one house that we continuously return to that has really made an impact on me. The people that live there I will remember for the rest of my life. Ruth and her husband Eddie have lived in the house for upwards of 15 years. In the last couple of years Ruth’s kidneys have started to fail and because of this she has been bed ridden and miserable. The doctors simply said her kidneys were failing and that they knew nothing else. They gave her medicine and sent her on her way.
after she started taking the medicine her condition drastically decreased and she was closer to death then ever before. For months she lived in pain and misery with no hope to recover. It was around the time that my squad arrived in Guatemala that Eddie and Ruth talked about no longer taking the medicine the doctors has prescribed her and to give her life fully to God and have faith in him that she would either recover or die peacefully and die knowing that she was going to heaven and that God loves her.
When we first talked to Ruth she was in bed and needed help for everything from changing her clothes to walking to the bathroom to bathing herself. We were able to pray for her and to give her words of life and light. We continued to return to Ruth’s house every week and talk to her and pray for her.
As the weeks progressed Ruth’s condition only worsened. The latest visit we had we went and prayed as usual. Laying hands on Ruth we prayed healing over her kidneys and her entire body. She had pain in both her back and her legs which were extremely swollen. As we prayed big prayers she told us the pain in her back and her legs casually disappeared and she had more energy then she had had in a long while. We asked her if she was willing to try walking on her own which she hadn’t done in a very long time. She was reluctant but was she herself was excited to try walking. She got up and slowly walked out of her bedroom and onto the porch all the while sporting a giant smile. Her husband, Eddie, quietly cried as he watched his wife do something her never thought he would see her do again. Altogether we thanked God and rejoiced.
Ruth’s story is one of a kind and their family is a blessing to me and many of my squadmates and I thank God every day for them. Thanks for reading and God bless y’all!
