Coming home from the race, I thought I had my next season of life planned out. Rest for 2-3 months, but have a real job in Corporate America by the end of my 3-month rest period. I felt like God wanted me to settle down a little bit, get a job and apartment, and be able to start investing in a church. I love traveling, but for a man that likes routine, college life and the race can begin to take its toll.
I was so sure of this plan, in fact, that I wrote in my calendar on September 8th: “Have job and apartment.” Even with that in mind, I didn’t worry about looking for a job until I returned home because I knew God would provide.
Fast-forward to Searchlight.
I went with the idea that they may have a network of possible for-profit business opportunities, but if they did not, no harm done. Searchlight is all about figuring out next steps; I was there to hang out with squadmates and maybe hear of jobs in Georgia (but who wants to move to Georgia?).
While there were no specific job offers, a lot of the Searchlight staff encouraged me to set up a meeting with Tim Abare, COO of AIM and an incredible businessman. He was wildly successful in “Corporate America” for over 20 years and then came back the non-profit to bring his expertise. I thought, “Hey, maybe he has some network that he can connect me with.”
I left that meeting shell-shocked.
During the course of the meeting, I shared my desires to bring the Kingdom to Earth and he shared a little bit of who he was and how he could maybe push my resume out to his network. However, the kicker came when he encouraged me to look into Center for Global Action and ELP (Emerging Leaders Program). No way, I thought, I do not want to come back to GA to have an internship.
Too bad that’s not what he had in mind. Through the course of several weeks of conversations, he and Bill Swan (my former squad leader) had a plan in line for me if I was willing to move to Georgia for a year.
A) Project manage a large event next fall
B) Spearhead, with Bill, all World Race and Passport trip Training Camps.
Umm, yes please.
Not only that, but Tim wants to personally develop me professionally and prepare me for a career in the business world and Bill wants to disciple me spiritually. Talk about a win-win-win-win.
I couldn’t say no. I realized in this time of processing that I don’t have a specific career in mind, and I need help understanding how to live 100% for the kingdom in America. Thankfully, both of those concerns will be addressed during my stay with Adventures in missions.
All that to say….
I realized that despite my fears of moving thousands of miles from my family and the wonder that is California (and missing USC football games. COME ON!), this is exactly what I need and is what God had in store for me.
And now for the fun part….
Being that Adventures in Missions is a non-profit missions organization, I get to raise support! I say that excitedly because A) God is a provider and B) you all have beyond amazing supporters of me throughout my life, and I know you will rise to the challenge again.
I have been asked to raise $10,000 to help me survive these next 14 months. I would be honored if you partnered with me as I trust the Lord to use me to equip the next generation of men and women who want to be broken for the ordinary.
If you would like to contribute, you can on the support me! link in the left column of my blog. In fact, it’s the same exact way you could donate while I was on the Race. We like to try and make it easy for you hear at Adventures in Missions.
Woah
