Well, I can’t say that I’m completely sad that I’ve said chao to Chao, Peru. It doesn’t help that I spent a majority of my last ten days in my hostel room. I guess it’s a little difficult to really get connected to people when you’re only there present for 2 weeks.
Despite my being sick for a lot of the month, so much good happened while Team Powerful Whisper lived in Chao.
We saw many people begin relationships with Christ.
We shared the love of Chao with what seemed like half of the city.
We built some great friendships while doing door-to-door with some of the church members.
We got to share our testimonies and each preach at church services throughout the month.
We grew in our Spanish abilities, and we loved sharing the gospel with so many people. The people here were so receptive to us and were willing to listen to some crazy gringos try and speak Spanish.
We got to share in a nearby city for a day and bring joy to people who lived near the church.
Some Fun Stuff
-Eat Cuy, aka Guinea pig. I little chewy, but good nevertheless
-Live in a hostel for a month.
-Go surfing in Huanchaco! Seriously this was so much fun.
-Explore ancient ruins
-See an active archeology site. It was like we were Indiana Jones.
-Eat pizza several times. Being out of America for a while makes you miss “normal” food.
-Go sandboarding (my team did, but it looked awesome)
-Watch a USC game in an internet café! It brought me so much joy to get a little bit of home. And it was a Trojan Victory!
All in all, Peru was a good month. Yeah, we had a lot of sickness and all that speaking in Spanish wore us out, but it was good for us.
By the numbers
It’s always a fun way to see what a month looked like
Miles we walked every day: 6 (1 mile each way to our contact’s house for meals.)
Number of Church services: 16
Number of doors we knocked on: over 250
Number of times we ate Cuy: 1
Number of church services that lasted until 3am: 1
Number of holes in my hostel wall: 1
Number of scarves I received when I left: 2, and one is 10 feet long
Number of times we shared the gospel: too many to count
Number of days sick: 9
Number of breakdowns I had: 1
Number of buses I took between Chao and Trujillo: 10
Number of times I had legroom: 0
This is a really random blog, but it’s all good. Let’s finish it off with a little slideshow!
