So with four day left until I leave I figured it’s a good time to start blogging. I think for the most part I have avoided blogging because it makes me feel way to vulnerable. Inevitably I will say and write things that after reflection will not make sense or people will disagree with. Blogging is unique in that it’s hard to dialog and vet your ideas out with your audience unless they participate and respond. It’s also, at least for me a very time consuming endeavor. That being said I look forward to the challenge and expect my readership will gain quite a bit of insight into who I am and where I am coming from. If you have questions please ask or if you have a word of encouragement post it.

As a bit of an update I am set to leave for Miami on Saturday morning. Our squad is leaving for the Dominican Republic Sunday mid day. I have no idea what to expect, it all just feels kind of fuzzy like when you are driving 90 miles an hour and look out the side window. I know this experience is going to change my life in ways I can’t predict. I know the Lord is going to stir things in my heart.

I was reading 1 Peter today and came across this verse, 1 Peter 4:7 “The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.” It just kind of struck me the last part, so that you can pray. Peter didn’t say so that you can make good decisions or help those in need, both of which are commendable things, no he says so you can pray. Prayer is something that I neglect. I often talk about its strength and have seen it repeatedly produce amazing results and yet for the most part it’s absent from my life. As I step into a position of what I would call manhood and leadership, it’s time this behavior changes. I love the different environments that produce and encourage prayer. As I travel the world this year I will try to share some of the places I find and the prayers I pray.
