Where am I? Am I dreaming; are my eyes showing me reality? I assume what I am seeing is how most of the rest of the world lives. This is not a shot at those who are reading this in America but we and furthermore I had no idea what 3rd world means. There is a real war going on here for souls even more than the Dominican Republic. This may go a little long but here is chance for you to understand what Haiti looks like beyond what CNN feeds you.

Before I give you the nitty-gritty details know that God is at work. He loves the oppressed and their cries are being heard. He has marked his kingdom in this country and has created some incredible warriors. All right here is the current state of Haiti. They have been rocked by at least 3 hurricanes in the last year, the last of which hit in September. That one washed bridges out and created what I would call man made lakes. It’s important to know that things like roads and adequate transportation are non-existent in Haiti. The first night I arrived after we were held at the border for 2 hours, we were greeted by mobs of people in the street vying for your basic necessities.

A quick side note everyone owns a machete from a 3 year old to grandma and I am not going to lie it’s a little intimidating. I have had rocks thrown at me, been waved at followed by the bird, told to go back home and called every white slang term you can think of. Our group sticks out like a sore thumb. For those of you that don’t know my ministry is just north of Port-au-Prince, which in the last year has had 14 American’s kidnapped and held for ransom. They actually have public announcement billboard posted all over telling the people that it’s wrong to kidnap. The UN is here and is aggressively patrolling the streets. They just pulled tanks out of the country a few weeks ago, which could be found on multiple corners. Grocery stores are pretty much non-existent and trash get burned all day everyday. Good luck finding clean water and medicine. You can add gas to that list as well. However, if you need a witch doctor they are in full supply. Ironically, you see Jesus name everywhere but not for the right reason. In Haiti it’s seen as a form of good luck to have Christ’s name plastered on anything and everything. The hospitals here are worse than the worst homeless shelter you can think of and lack the proper supplies.

Ok So I could keep going like this for at least four more paragraphs but you get the point. This place is dark, dark like Sodom or Gomorrah. Some would ask why bother, why minister to these humans? Well for that reason, they are human and they are acting like humans who are being oppressed and without God. Here’s the thing though, there is a whisper that is turning into a cry. The same God who brought the Israelites out of both Egypt and Babylon is waging war in favor of the Haitian’s. I believe this and have witnessed it. Once again it has started with those who have dedicated their lives to a geographic location; to a calling placed in them by God. They are few but have dug their ditch like well-seasoned soldiers. I will say this neither the Haitian government nor the witch doctors nor the people’s sin is going to move these people. There is HOPE. The FOG is being lifted. Praise God.
