So a little over a week ago I had a bake sale that went pretty well! My friends and I raised $691 and some change!! The night before, we stayed up late making all kinds of delish treats! It was your typical girl’s night. We talked for hours, laughed throughout the night, listened to music, and of course we ordered pizza because you can’t have a girl’s night without pizza lol. So the next morning two of my friends and I drove to Mardels and set up the table of goodies. Then some of my friends from work came out and we all sat out there in the heat waiting for people to come out. I had invited my friends from church, work, facebook, and couple of my regulars from Panera. I knew that my church and work friends would come out but I didn’t really expect any of the regulars from Panera to come. I was wrong.
One of the sweetest ladies that comes in a couple times a week asked me to text her and remind her about the bake sale and if she had time she would come out. So I sent her a little reminder and she told me that she should be there at some point. I kept an eye out for her while I was sitting out there. I saw her pull in and I ran out to her gave her a big hug and thanked her for coming out. She looked at the table of sweets, we talked and she bought a few things. She started to leave and I thanked her again for coming out. As she walked away I heard her say to herself “ aahhh I should stop listening” she turned around and dug into her purse, pulled out a hundred dollars and handed it to me. I looked at her in shock and she looked at me and told me to take it. All I could say at this point was “Thank you so much”. I started to get teary-eyed and I told her that she was going to make me cry and she told me “It is really good that you are doing this”. She wished me luck and walked away. I texted her later that day thanking her again for her donation. I told her that it really encouraged me. She texted back, “Thanks be to God who allowed me the money this month to be able to help. I pray He blesses you and your team abundantly, in every way, so that you may be able to help all of His children you’re hoping to help. Thank You for allowing me the opportunity to serve Him in this mission in my little way”.
Her response was humble and so beautiful. In those few sentences she made a great impact on me. She could have been the typical customer that comes in places their order and pay no attention to the person in front of them but she decided to invest into that person. She encouraged me and believes in what I am doing. Also, in those few sentences I felt challenged because she didn’t take any of the credit. She thanked God for allowing her the finances that month and she thanked me for the opportunity. It makes me reevaluated myself and ask “am I encouraging/investing in those around me?” and “Am I giving God the glory that He deserves?”
**********I want to thank everyone who came out and supported my trip! You have no idea how much that means to me!!
