So this doesn’t have anything to do with me being able to reach stuff in high places, or anything to do with my basketball skills!  Well basketball kind of plays into it a bit, but here’s the story:

On one of our off days I was hanging out in a mall waiting on people to be able to talk to them over the phone on the WiFi, and I decided to go use the ATM.  When I returned to my seat in this food court moments later an Ecuadorian man walked over and said something in Spanish and put out his hand to shake mine!  I cannot speak a lick of Spanish (my vocab is extremely limited) so I said “no hablo Español” and he said “Oh you speak English!” Which was a huge surprise because this random Ecuadorian man speaks English in a very Spanish dominated area!

Any who we started talking and he wanted to know if I lived in the area so then I could go play basketball at his school (because I was so tall)!  I told him that I didn’t live in the area but was visiting from the US.  He then told me that his son plays basketball and was now in the states going to college which is really awesome!  We eventually got to talking about what I was doing here and I started to explain about the race!!  He turned out to be a Christian and actually the head of a Christian school in the area! He was very intrigued by the race because he has a daughter who is in high school and would love for her to take part in something like the race!  So I got his contact info and am going to send him all the information about the race and adventures and their contact here in Ecuador; he in turn is going to respond with info about his school!!

It’s really crazy but also really cool how something so normal to me of people asking if I played or wanted to play basketball because of my height turns into sharing about the race, and perhaps getting another participant in the coming years!  It’s cool to see how God puts people in our paths because of different reasons to share different things with each of them!
