Our God has a real sense of irony!  It’s quite funny to actually experience this. I’ve heard of stories of instances in which people have experienced God being ironic but never have I actually experienced it till September 10th. (the day when we got the news about leaving the hotel that night!)

During worship during the evening session on September 10th I was having a rocking time and really connecting with God!  Towards the end of the worship session the lead singer in the worship band told us to all go and ask God what He had to say to us.  I thought I would hear something along the lines of “You are prepared for this adventure” or “You are a son and I love you and am proud of you”, both of which I have heard previously.  However, this time I heard something rather interesting and so cool!

For context; both me and my girlfriend Bernadette are on this crazy adventure called the World Race Gap Year!  We are both on different squads however because Adventures has a policy where dating couples cannot be on the same squad. So, we are both literally on opposite sides of the world through out these 9 months! When I am in Colombia and Ecuador (South America) she is in Romania and Ukraine (Eastern Europe). When I am in Thailand and Cambodia (South East Asia) she is in Chile and Peru (South America). Finally, when I am in Albania (Eastern Europe) she is in India (West Asia kind of).  Now for most people this would be really hard to maintain a relationship on opposite sides of the world, while doing mission work the whole time, with limited Wi-Fi and communication, and with Satan wanting nothing more than that relationship to end.  It would be really tough and in reality, it is tough.  However, it is not near as tough as I was expecting it to be.

Now back to what God was speaking to me during that worship session.  God told me something really cool; He said: “This goodbye coming up between you and Bernadette should not be sad.  In fact, it should be a time of joy and excitement and peace!”  This was really so encouraging to hear and I accepted that and got into the mindset that it would be a time of joy and excitement and of peace!  As soon as I heard this and accepted it that’s when the announcement that our squad would be leaving in an hour happened.  If God hadn’t just told me that I would’ve been freaking out because things with the goodbye weren’t going my way, but instead I was at so much peace and not at all worried about it in the slightest!  Bernadette and I did get to have our goodbye and it was a time of excitement for the journey we were both about to embark on, in which we both would grow so much personally with the Lord and in the long run would strengthen our relationship!  It was a time of joy for each other because we were both excited for what the other was about to go into with the Lord!  And it was a time of supernatural peace for both of us because God had spoken to me and I accepted His peace, and once I shared that word from God with Bernadette she had the same peace as well!  I still have that peace even now and I don’t see it going anytime soon because God’s peace is supernatural!

The irony in that was due to the fact that just as soon as I was at peace with the goodbye God had it happen very soon thereafter! His timing is perfect and He knew that I would accept that peace from Him in that moment so then my squad could leave soon thereafter! It was so cool to experience Gods voice in that way and his sense of humor!
