Hello Everyone!
It‘s been awhile so I just want to update everyone:
First is that I am fully fundraised! This is such a huge accomplishment and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this mission, I am incredibly thankful!
Second is that I leave for Atlanta early on the 22nd. I will arrive at around 9 and from there those of my squadmates and I who arrived by plane will take a bus to the World Race training camp in Gainsville Georgia. We will train there for 3 days and the broad theme of the training camp is God, Community and Mission. We will bring God on our mission through scripture and readings since it is what unites us as a mission. We will also focus on what it means to learn and grow with God. Community will be built through team building activities and is very important considering that we will be traveling internationally during a pandemic! Lastly, we will be focusing on mission which is the biblical basis of missioning and engaging with cultures. Moreover, we will hone in on what it means to be a disciple.
After training camp we will ‘launch’ to Nicaragua on the 26th! We will be working with 516 Now ministries in Palacaguina, Nicaragua which is in the North of the country situated in the mountains that run through Central America. While we are there, we will be tasked with a variety of possible projects: painting, construction, teaching english, teaching general classes, and evangilism. We were encouraged by World Race to have an ‘go with the flow’ and understand that our jobs may change and also include tasks that are not on this list. They told us that this is not only because of difficulties planning ahead with COVID, but they also explained that this is because of their culture: In Nicaragua they take it as it comes and live for today, something we could all learn a little more about.
As for safety protocols while I am on Mission, I am required to test negative before I arrive to training camp. We will also be tested again before we leave for Nicaragua, since it is a requirement to get in to the country. We will also be wearing masks and following other safety guidelines as World Race requires. As for when I am on the field, our international health plan covers COVID illness related costs along with a variety of other diseases or conditions. I assure you that World Race has our heath in mind and will never put me in a situation they deem unsafe.
To end things on a more positive note, I am excite to announce that I have created a YouTube channel! This will be a great way to communicate with you all and truly ’bring you’ on my journey. My hope is to post 2 videos a month while I am in Nicaragua, and I will post my first video soon! Here is the link to my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCugqwccSJosvnDWETTtFl3A
Thank you all so much for following me on this journey. I pray that you all stay safe and healthy in the comming days ahead and that my mission trip can offer you a little light in your life!
God Bless, Nicholas Dreyer
