Today officially begins the next chapter of my life. “Why today?” you may ask, “but you don’t leave for another two months?” Great question! You see, today I quit the job that I have had for the past five and a half years and the business I started over seven years ago. It has consumed the majority of my time and focus for all of my “adult life,” however little that may be, but now the reins have been transferred to very capable hands to take care of my baby. Leaving my job a little over 2 months before the start of the World Race allows me to have my first work free summer since I was 14, and it gives me the opportunity to be a part of several other small trips before the big one.
For the next couple of days I will be packing up my apartment and turning in the keys on the 7th. Also, on May 7th I will start the 800ish mile drive from Tulsa to training camp in Georgia, where I am so excited to meet my team and to learn more about this journey.
Once training camp is over I will be driving immediately to Oklahoma Baptist University to be a leader at a youth leadership camp called Super Summer. I will spend six days here pouring the love of Jesus into 10-15 students for five days.
Then I will have a seven-day rest at home with nothing planned, yet!
The next adventure is with my old youth group and we are going to LA, July 2nd. I will be working with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) helping out in whatever way we can in the communities there. The rest of the group heads back to Tulsa on the 9th, but I will be staying till the 11th for a little mini vacation and also to connect with some of my team mates that live in the LA area.
Following this trip I will have another 4 day break back at home with only a dentist appointment to tend too, yippee.
After this short break the last small trip will be in Purdy, Missouri at a place called Camp Barnabas. This is a camp unlike anything I have done before, because all of the campers have some sort of disability. The week I am there will have students ages 7 – 25 who are blind, deaf/hard of hearing, burn patients, have chronic illness, have diabetes, amputees, or high functioning Aspergers Syndrome. I am so excited to see what God will do in my heart and the hearts and lives of the campers. I’m expecting God to do mighty things this week!
Then I come home to a 13 to 14 day stretched with nothing exciting happening except some sort of going away party; 13 days if I drive to Georgia or 14 days if fly instead for the August 5th launch.
I am very thankful God has given me a busy schedule to help keep my mind focused and my body productive for the next 65 days!
