Raising over $16,000 dollars can be intimidating for one person to do.  Initially, I was very hesitant to talk about what I would be doing this September.  I thought that people wouldn’t care; that people wouldn’t exactly agree with what I was doing.  I always felt nervous and anxious when I talked about the World Race.  I was trying to do this journey alone.  But how effective would I be as a missionary if I did this alone, let alone raise $16,000.  I know that I need other people to donate generously in order for me to go on the World Race.  So, I thought to myself: “How are people going support me if they didn’t know what I was doing?”  So I started consciously telling people about the World Race.  It got easier to mention every time I forced myself to talk about it with people (friends, family, co-workers, random strangers).  Of course, there’s going to be people who don’t care about my mission and don’t want to hear about it, but I am overwhelmed by the amount of supportive people who get more excited than I am about this upcoming year.

I mailed out my support letters a few weeks ago and I received financial support from a generous person I did not ask support from or send a letter to.  That’s amazing and proves that God’s hands are all over my Race!  What happened was a person who received a support letter simply mentioned my World Race to their loved ones (complete strangers to me!) and they got so excited about my Race that they decided to donate.  So the lesson that I got from this, and that all World Racers should get from this story, is to just TALK ABOUT IT! Trust me; you will be overwhelmed over the amount of support you will receive from unexpected sources.  The church, God’s people, is extensive, wants to send you to the nations, and can help you reach farther than you ever could alone.  Christianity is not an individual faith.  As believers in Christ’s resurrection, as the church, we are meant to act as one, love one another, and support each other to fulfill the mission of Matthew 28:19.  And I have just experienced that support can come from unlikely sources if you just have the courage to talk about it.

Just talk about it!  How can anybody help if they don’t know?
