Here it is again! The 2nd edition of the "Best of…" series. After SE Asia we spent 3 months in Eastern Africa.
I have been to Kampala, Uganda, Kigali, Rwanda, and Harbu Chulule (3 hours outside of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia). So this award ceremony may be a little biased since I did not visit the entire country. But who cares?!?! This is supposed to be fun!
In my own opinion & not in any order:
Best Food: Ethiopia (I could eat injera for every meal)
Best food (runner up): Rolex – I gotta give a shout-out to these babies. Delicious. Fried eggs, tomato, onion, all wrapped in a delicious fried blend of flour and oil.
Craziest Traffic: Kampala – not as bad as Ho Chi Minh though
Cutest Kids: Uganda
Best Chocolate Milk: Uganda
Most Scenic: Rwanda
Most Recognizable City (ie easiest city not to get lost in): Kigali, Rwanda (they even have sidewalks!)
Best Weather: Ethiopia
Spiciest Food: Ethiopia
Best Ice Cream: Kigali, Rwanda
Best Mode of Transportation: Moto taxis in Kigali, Rwanda
Most Expensive: Rwanda
Easiest Language to “Grasp”: Oroma (Ethiopia)
Easiest Currency Exchange Rate: Ethiopia (Birr)
Best Markets: Harbu Chulule, Ethiopia (Great financing at the donkey dealership + 0% Down!)
Best Tourist Attractions: Uganda (the Nile)
Most Hazardous to my Health: Rwanda (Gave myself food poisoning and went on an unrelated hospital visit)
Most Willing to Barter: Uganda
Best Hospital: Kigali, Rwanda
Least Amount of Squattie Potties Used: Ethiopia
Best Place to Run: Harbu Chulule, Ethiopia (watch out for those donkeys!)
Best Off-Day Activity: Kigali, Rwanda (Taking our host family bowling for the first time)
Most Annoying Flies: Ethiopia
Best Sleeping Accommodations: Ethiopia
Best Travel Day: Vietnam to Uganda (Emirates)
Most Likely to Get Car Sick: Rwanda (lots of hills and curves)
Best Internet Connection: Rwanda (Canaberra Coffee Shop in Kigali)
Hardest Place to Keep Our Feet Clean: Uganda
Best Hostel: Manhattan Hostel, Kampala, Uganda
Best Movie Theatre: Kigali, Rwanda
Best Popcorn: Ethiopia – Bekah is the best!
Most Crowded: Kampala, Uganda
