The 4th country my squad is supposed to be going to is Vietnam… and being a history/politics buff I understand some of the struggles that have been going on there for decades.
Vietnam is right on the coast in Southeast Asia. It is home to approx 90 million people, many of whom are Buddhist. It is also a socialist nation, struggling with all the sinful issues that come from communism and the war 40 years ago.
Prayer requests… (hopefully I’ll add more later but the book I use was too big to bring with me so I’m going off the Operation World website which is bare bones compared to the book)
1. Pray for the continued development of strong Christian leaders. Numbers in the church are increasing but that means there is a need for more leaders and it creates greater possibility for false teachings and doctrine if leaders are not brought up and adequately trained. Church leaders also need training in other areas because most are in charge of multiple congregations and don’t have time to raise money to support their own livelihood or they have to balance time between a paying job and leading many churches.
2. Many people fled when communism took over in the 70s and some have been burdened for their home country spiritually and have returned. Pray that they may integrate effectively back into society and that they may help raise up a new generation of leaders.
3. Pray for the dozens of unreached people groups in Vietnam. You can find a prayer card for all the people groups on the Operation World website… www.operationworld.org/viet
