This is a continuation of the Filipino pastries I’ve been eating (yes, I have been getting around… hopefully it doesn’t also include me getting a-round-er belly! haha)
8. Round Dough Pastry with Powdered Sugar on top

This pastry was better than the sum of it’s parts as shown by a higher overall score than any individual category. I would buy this pastry as it was a delicious post-dinner addition, there just was not anything special about it. The flavor was not overwhelmingly delicious, it was pretty dense which I felt hurt it’s moisture because it was lacking fluffiness and the denseness of it just didn’t help it out much. It was a tiny little guy, like a donut hole, but flatter and more Oval shaped. Nothing special, but worth buying.
9. Purple Swirl Roll
Flavor – 75
Moisture – 64
Creativity – 85
Other – 80
Overall – 73
Cost – 4 Pesos (9 cents)
This pastry suffered from being bought late at night, like 7pm, So it might be Been better and more moist if bought earlier. This is a pastry I would buy again to see if it was this mediocre or if it suffered from timing. It was a huge boost to the end of a really long day but I would buy many pastries before it.
10. Bow Tie Sweetness

This was a fun looking pastry that was a light, pleasant surprise. I think I’m realizing I like simple pastries more than anything else. The ones that try to do too much with frosting, filling, and other things, they are good a rend they have their place, but oftentimes I enjoy a simple pastry with some sugar or a glaze on top, something cheap, not super sugary, and just light and delicious. This pastry fits that bill. It won’t get super high ratings but it will be enjoyed and loved.
11. Plain Circle Sweetness
Flavor – 87
Moisture – 86
Creativity – 76

This is very similar to the above mentioned bow tie pastry, but it was cinnamon roll shaped, circular and spiraling In on itself. This pastry was essentially the same as the above mentioned, light, lightly sweetened, plain colored, not trying to do too much. It does what it is supposed to, is appreciated and Likely is 10 cents or less.
12. Chocolate Crumb “Bagel”

This pastry almost, almost suffered from over hype. My teammates, knowing i love pastries, were like, this is so amazing, it’s the best pastry ever or at least the best pastry In the Philippines so i was back lashing some against the hype initially and had super high expectations which the pastry ultimately met, but it took a bit because it wasn’t totally what i was expecting. However, it was super delicious and all my teammates would back this review up. I’m actually trying to figure out where it was bought So I can get a bunch before we leave.
13. Dragon Pastry

This pastry is saved by the fact it looked awesome. It looked like a Dragon or a spiky lizard So it created initial excitement but there was literally no flavor. It was like eating bread but more pastry-like. It wasn’t sweet or salty, it had no flavoring, it was just there, which was super disappointing considering how it looked. It created high expectations and fell really flat.
14. Coconut Filled Pastry

I am a fan of coconut, not a huge fan, but it’s enjoyable. This pastry was essentially a doughnut, slightly different texture and density, filled with coconut flavor and coconut flakes. You had both the taste and texture of coconut on the inside which was Quite intriguing to have. It’s Been awhile since I’ve had the texture of coconut and never In a pastry, but it was a pleasant surprise. I know some people would be completely turned off by the coconut, but it’s worth the experience.
(And yes… in case you were wondering, I have 6 more pastries I’ve eaten recently in the Philippines but haven’t written about… so there will be more pastry blogs to come from the Philippines. Eat em up! hahaha)
