Have you ever wondered what your purpose is in life?

It’s a constant wondering for many people. With so many avenues of things to do / be in life we can find ourselves lost. Lost in searching and searching for what our purpose really is. Or we can even catch ourselves wondering if we are living in our purpose.

Well what does the word purpose actually mean?

Purpose: the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc.

The Hebrew word for purpose is Kavana  which means: intention or design.

Hmmm intention & design = the reason for existing. So from all of this, how can I exist intentionally doing whatever I was designed to do?

When I was in high school I remember wondering what my purpose was before deciding on where to go to college. When I graduated college, I remember asking myself this same question of purpose before going into teaching. When I was teaching in an elementary school I still remember wondering, gosh what is my purpose in life? Now that I’m on the world race I’ve contemplated the word purpose more.

Honestly, I used to think my purpose was just big decisions I made. Now, I realize it’s actually the reason why I’m existing. It’s not necessarily what I’m doing it’s the why I’m doing it.

So I thought about it and looked through scripture. From that, I can see that I my deepest desire and reason for existing is to know God and make Him known.

To love God and love people. I exist to proclaim freedom to the captives. I exist to walk in obedience wherever God calls me and share the hope of the gospel everywhere. Ultimately, I exist to give God glory in all that I do.

I don’t exist to convict or convert, I’m just here to connect.

To connect people back to God, the way creation was originally designed.

At the end of the day, it’s not my job to play God. It’s my purpose and desire to walk in obedience and share the good news of Christ wherever I go, however that looks and let Him work on the heart’s of people.

Because for me, people are not a project they are the purpose.

The purpose for why I’m still here.

When we look at Jesus, people were the purpose why He came; why He existed.

He came to take our place, so that through a relationship with Him, we can have a right relationship with the Father.

Wow.

Once you recognize your purpose in life, (not just big decisions) life becomes a lot more worth living for.

Jesus came so that we can have life and life more abundantly. (John 10:10) Key words are “so that we”… He came for us. People were His purpose in coming to connect us back to the Father.

What’s your purpose?

Have you ever thought about it?

Have you ever thought that maybe your purpose for existing is to know God, and make Him known wherever you are?
