One of my teammates Jonathan came up with an idea. For the last 15 days he created a list of 15 things he is looking forward to when arriving back in the states. I along with a few other teammates made our own lists too!
Click on my teammates blog to read their lists!
Here is my list below, enjoy:
1. Family and Friends
You all mean the world to me!! I couldn’t have done this race without you. You all have prayed, encouraged and supported me and I am so grateful for you!
2. Church
For sure I’ve missed the community of all the churches I’ve been apart of back at home. Whether it’s small group, singing on the worship team, serving in kids ministry gosh I miss it & you all a lot!!
3. Holidays & traditions
My family always gets together during the holiday season. We have family traditions that I love and do not want to miss! (especially our family butter carving competition)
4. Home cooked meals
Trying food from all over the world is amazing but there’s nothing like my moms chicken potpie, sweet tea, and chocolate chip cookies that I’m looking forward to.
5. Driving everywhere
We have gotten the opportunity to travel by bus, ferry, train, plane, Uber etc. BUT there’s nothing like having freedom to drive your own car.
6. Hot showers
Showers on the race are always different. Typically it’s either scolding hot or freezing, there’s two extremes.
7. Doing things independently
We travel as a group of 19 humans. It’s great but there are times when I wish I could go off and do my own thing…ya know?
8. Starbucks (or local coffee shops from home)
I’ve seen Starbucks overseas and been to them for sure but the local coffee shops from home…there’s just something about knowing the workers and feeling at home.
9. Not living out of a backpack
Living out of a backpack for a year with limited clothes and not many items is hard!! It’s definitely taught me a lot about abandonment.
10. My own bed & simple necessities
Sleeping in my own bed will be glorious and simple necessities like an actual towel (not an REI microfiber one) I definitely appreciate now.
11. Wearing make-up and all the girl kind of stuff
Getting my hair done, wearing make-up and just shopping is for sure something that doesn’t really happen often on the race.
12. Not having to sleep in a tent
Sleeping in a tent is fine for a weekend camping trip but for a month or more…not my type of thing.
13. No big bugs (like camel spiders, cockroaches, etc.)
We have seen more bugs all over the world than I can count on the race. Some of them are rare and poisonous so it’s cool to experience them BUT I’m totally content with not seeing them at all or at least camel spiders in the US.
14. Speaking English everywhere
Learning new languages all over the world has been amazing. But the language barrier is also a real thing. It can be a real struggle just to have a simple conversation we people overseas.
15. Not having scheduled team-time/feedback everyday
As a team we have had set aside intentional time everyday for what the world race calls team-time and feedback. Both are suppose to build team unity, the worst part is scheduling these times..it seems forced. But the best part is throughout the race it’s become more natural so we actually haven’t scheduled these times they have come more naturally and been more in the moment.
All these things I am SUPER excited about and for sure much more things as well.
Especially seeing YOU all in 15 days!!
