Currently I am in Nairobi staying at the YMCA downtown with my whole squad. It is an interesting debrief this week. Allison our squad leader is stepping down and being replaced by two people from our squad, Kelly and Kyla. Adventures in Missions is all about raising up new leaders and this has been part of their plan from the beginning. To pick leaders from within my group to lead the rest and have Allison support us from the states. So with the leader change comes team changes. All 8 teams have been changed. I am the leader of my team which is made up of 3 members from my old team: Bev, Carly and Dennis and now I have 3 new additional members: Erin, Jessica, and Michelle. Pictured above is my new team.
God is teaching all of us that we hold everything loosely in our hands and all that is belongs to Him. It is easy to think that I have a right to my team especially the members that got taken off: Ben, Sara, and Brenda. I mean come on; I have invested my life into these people. We have gone from strangers to great friends. We have become family to each other and now just as things are really starting to flow between us it gets blown up. But as I continue to grow and learn on this trip I realize that I have no rights. I have no rights because I am dead. I have made the decision to die to self and let Christ live in me. And that is the beauty in the change. In this trial God has given me an opportunity to let my selfish nature go and let God in.
“Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but the Lord tests the heart.” Proverbs 17:3
This is just a small test that God is using to refine my heart and make it more beautiful than before. Even though I am grieving the loss of my old team I am very excited and optimistic about my new team. We have named ourselves The Remnant. The Remnant is the idea of God’s chosen people that he has set apart, protected, and called to bring Kingdom in a might way.
My team will be leaving for Tanzania on Sunday. We will be in the capital city of Dar Salaam from the month. I don’t have any details on our ministry yet and hope to update you when I find out.
