This weekend I had a huge, 3 day garage sale to help fundraise for my trip. A GIANT garage sale. Preparing for it was crazy and stressful for me and my family. Partly because we had so much stuff to sort through and partly because we had so little time to process everything. We spent every night of the last week cleaning, sorting, making signs, and pricing. It was insane.
Then the first day of the sale came along. We were all apprehensive about how well it would go. So at 7am Friday morning, we had our family devotions. And what was our devotional about? Giants. More specifically about the giant situations in life that seem impossible and daunting to us but are doable through God.
Gotta love the timing on that devotional. It encouraged all of us that, no matter what the outcome of the sale was, God had it in control. (To read the full devotional: The Small Giant).
And the sale did go well. Really well. We still have a lot of items left over (which will make their way to the local thrift shops), but we definitely sold over half of the things that we had.
I expected to make about $500-$600.
We made $1,422.
Wow.
With that money, I will make my second deadline months ahead of schedule (my second deadline is $7,500 in my mission account before I leave in January).
Just a couple of weeks ago I had been stressed out that I wouldn’t make my first deadline ($3,500 by September 26) and now (with my garage sale earnings and several other generous donations) I will have double that amount in my account!
I think God wants me to go on this trip.
Also, this song was my feel good song during the whole weekend:
“You gotta fill your mind with new horizons
Or your dreams will pack their bags
Break this spell
Get out of bed
When you get up in the morning
Put a spring in your step
shake the dust off of your feet
Step out into the street
Everything
Everything is gonna be alright
Be alright
Everything
Everything is gonna be alright
Be alright”
Thank you to everyone who donated towards my garage sale, who prayed about it, and who bought things!
