Egypt! Wow, a taste of summer in an otherwise cold journey around the world. It has been 50’s and below every where we have gone the last 3 months, then, a blast of warm air. I write this on a train in Kazakhstan surrounded by frigid temperatures and flat landscapes of SNOW. Yes, lots of snow! It is strange thinking just one week ago we were in 70’s and sunshine. Egypt brought a refreshing number of flowers and green landscapes… and then sand. Lots of sand. Sand storms are real. In the land where working hard outside in a t-shirt, where it is actually possible to get a tan, we had a temporary break from the “winter route”.

Contrary to the locals insisting “it never rains in Egypt” The first weeks it rained many times. Given, the rain was more of a sprinkle, but the ground was left wet. The water brought fresh life and flowers once again sprouted from dry ground. One day, dry ground, the next, blooming flowers. Then only to find the next day the flowers shriveled and dried out again.

Egypt was filled with rest, hard work, family, refreshment, sunshine, and promises. The flowers didn’t disappoint either. Enjoy!
