The other day the Lord brought me to Jeremiah 18 which is the famous passage about how we are clay in the hands of a potter. I began to read it with the stigma of “oh this is just that passage.” The conviction came quickly. “Don’t disregard what I have for you here” the Lord said, “don’t allow your assumptions lead you to miss breakthrough.” Then I read this…
.
“God told Jeremiah, “Up on your feet! Go to the potter’s house. When you get there, I’ll tell you what I have to say.”
So I went to the potter’s house, and sure enough, the potter was there, working away at his wheel. Whenever the pot the potter was working on turned out badly, as sometimes happens when you are working with clay, the potter would simply start over and use the same clay to make another pot.” (Jer. 18:1-4 MSG). I think the Lord often brings us to the place of mundane to show us the miraculous. In my life I find the Lord telling me to go to a coffee shop or just around the corner and I don’t see the point in it. And when I go, nothing happens. I don’t normally see miraculous healing and often I don’t even pray for someone or give a word. I just go and the Lord will teach me something. The work of a potter is simple, frustrating and can at some points be boring, but not to the Lord. . He spoke to me in that moment and said, “clay takes time and patience to work with. The potter has patience and grace to fail in an attempt to make something more beautiful.” Maybe my mistakes aren’t offensive to him but rather an imperfection in the clay. Maybe theirs grace for my mistakes and imperfections because the potter delights in starting over. He enjoys the process of my life and the work it takes to make something beautiful from the messy clay. . Clay is only moldable when wet. Maybe the pain and hardship of your life is the water He’s using to make something more beautiful. Maybe He wants to make your ashes into beauty and maybe He means what He says. . The Lord is driven and hunger for you to experience Him in everyday life. He died for it. He longs to walk through your every day and show you the wonder of doing something mundane. He wants to teach you something through the dishes, making a meal, cutting the grass, sipping some coffee. Let God out of a 45 minute morning devotional and allow Him into every part of your day. . He’s waiting for you around every moment.
